About our Explorer sessions
Our Explorers sessions are designed to inspire children to get outdoors, discover nature, and explore the world around them, with two age‑appropriate sessions available. We’re lucky to have the beautiful Northallerton Secret Garden, tucked just off the High Street, as our exclusive space to explore.
With its ponds, little trails, stepping stones, and a wonderful mix of plants and vegetables, the garden is a fantastic place for children to follow their curiosity, learn about nature, and enjoy relaxed, hands‑on outdoor fun.

Mini Explorers (2-4 year olds)
These 45 minute sessions are designed for children aged 2-4 and their grown‑ups to enjoy together, held exclusively at the Northallerton Secret Garden.
They offer a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time with your little one as they wander the garden and take part in nature‑inspired activities. Children can roam freely, get creative and follow their curiosity in a calm, welcoming outdoor space.
Each week brings something new to explore. Little ones can enjoy sensory play in the garden, creating in the mud kitchen, dipping nets into the pond to discover tiny creatures, or exploring the garden’s trails where they’ll notice different colours, textures and sounds in nature. These gentle, hands‑on activities help children build confidence, develop early physical and cognitive skills and connect with the natural world in a playful, meaningful way.
Junior Explorers (5 – 7 year olds)
Suitable for older children aged 5-7, these 1-hour sessions are all about inspiring confidence in the outdoors and are held exclusively at the Northallerton Secret Garden.
They give children the freedom to explore and play more independently, offering a different experience from our toddler sessions. Parents and guardians are welcome to drop children off, as adults do not need to stay.
Activities are designed to feel adventurous, hands‑on and creative. Children might build dens using natural materials, work together to create simple structures, or take part in team challenges that encourage problem‑solving. They can explore the garden more freely, follow trails and join in scavenger hunts that spark curiosity and independence. These sessions give children space to develop practical skills and grow in confidence as they take on more responsibility in their play.
